Assignment
Due: December 10 (Wednesday) / December 11 (Thursday)
There is no final exam for this class. This assignment is a way to share what you discovered about the various arts disciplines and artists we covered this fall.
Put a lot of effort into this 5-page paper. It carries a lot of weight for your final grade.
Throughout the semester, you should have kept track of the times that you have an epiphany or “aha” moment – a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension – about an artwork or art discipline as a whole. These epiphanies should be inspired by an aesthetic experience or encounter that you had with the class content either in the classroom or on class outings.
Please refer to the class readings related to the subject areas to further reflect upon your experiences and support your writing with references to the readings!
You can consider the following themes as a way to frame your writing:
- New definitions of what constitutes a work of art
- Artistic practice (process/technique(s) employed) as a means to creating and expressing ideas in a work of art
- Revelations induced by exposure to unfamiliar art forms
- Recognizing the “steal like an artist” and “personal is political” themes in the work you encountered
